Accounting Supervisor

We are currently hiring for an accounting supervisor, responsible for General Accounting functions in a dynamic, fast paced warehousing, distribution, and transportation environment. Responsibilities include supervising staff accountants, approving and processing journal entries and reconciliations, and performing various support functions for Regional and Corporate departments. This individual coordinates input from multiple business functions including the Regional Finance teams, and works closely with the Corporate Accounting Manager. This is a critical role within the Accounting department, primarily responsible for the integrity and maintenance of the General Ledger.
The ideal candidate for this position possesses solid accounting skills, is a self-starter, resourceful, detail-oriented, and has excellent communication skills. He/she must have the ability to work seamlessly with cross-functional teams and strong process management skills. This role reports to the Corporate Accounting Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Supervises two General Staff Accountants.
Reviews and approves journal entries, account analyses, and reconciliations.
Ensures accuracy of general ledger postings, and correct application of GAAP accounting to business transactions.
Performs month end closing activities and maintains the General Ledger Accounting, with primary focus on Balance Sheet accounts including Cash, Contra AR, Fixed Assets, Deposits, Prepaid Expenses, and Accrued Expenses.
Coordinates the Intercompany accounting activity between related companies and ensures monthly elimination of any balances between the operating divisions.
Maintains analysis validating the integrity of the financial statements and researches all reconciling items.
Supports the annual audit and compiles information for the related Financial Statements and other financial regulatory requirements.
Provides support for Annual Federal and State filings and monitors local tax returns.
Performs Balance Sheet fluctuation analysis.
Monitors Accounting Policies and Procedures.
Communicates job expectations, and processes and coordinates routine procedures to staff.
Performs annual reviews and goal setting for direct reports.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors Degree in Accounting
At least 3-5 years of Supervisory Experience
ERP System Experience
Advanced knowledge of Excel
Excellent Communication (both written and verbal)
Must show stability in tenure
