Full Job Description
Purpose and Scope
The Drafter is responsible for maintaining all drawings and drawing revision levels for both standard equipment and custom fabrications
Responsibilities:
The Drafter will verify that all drawings released to production are current revision level.
He/She will make all updates as required to existing drawings as outlined by Design Change Notices or as directed by the Director of Engineering.
He/She will work with the Director of Engineering and provide drawing assistance for all new design products,
He/She will prepare project submittal packages as required for large construction projects. He/She will work with the customer to make adjustments to the submittal package as required to meet the project requirements
Organizational Relationships:
The Drafter reports directly to the Director of Engineering and has a support responsibility to all functional directors, managers and personnel.
Job Requirements:
· Technical Requirements: 2 to 4 years of either drafting education or practical experience.
· Managerial Experience – Not Applicable
· Create technical drawings for approvals and production for equipment to be fabricated based on existing models/assemblies.
· 50%
o Job Duty: Approval drawing creation per job orders. (Drawings created from reference model)
o Work Product: Create approval drawings (detailed) per “Standards” and customer/product specifications (using CAD Software). Specifications are gathered from front office filing cabinet.
· 10%
o Job Duty: Fabrication drawing creation per job and standard units (Drawings created from reference models)
o Work Product: Create fabrication drawings for Jobs and standard units based on existing models and assemblies
· 20%
o Job Duty: Modify “Travelers” for custom jobs that require minimal changes
o Work Product: Traveler creation based on existing traveler. Adding basic accessories/fabrication items based on bill of materials.
· 20%
o Job Duty: Create drawings for existing models
o Work Product: Creation of detailed fabrication drawings for ship based on existing models
Knowledge
· Proficient in CAD software modeling (SOLIDWORKS) and some Sheet Metal experience and understanding.
· Understanding of basic dimensioning and tolerancing
· Basic understanding of Microsoft Excel
· Locating accessories on units
· Starting projects from existing units or from “scratch”
· Designing sheet metal components and assembly of fabrication items
· Quantity of items laser cut & cutting of raw materials
· Create custom parts on fabrication issues in shop as needed
· High Responsibility – large impact on cost of fabrication can be due to mistakes in department. Fabrication is dependent on what is provided by this department. If incorrect info is provided, units will have issues.
Skills
· Analytical: Mechanical Design Understanding
· Project/Process Management – Create/provide drawings in a timely manner.
· Technology – CAD Software, Auto CAD, Revit, (SOLIDWORKS), Microsoft Excel
· Oral & Written Communications – Required to explain drawing/unit information effectively on approval/fabrication drawings
· Interpersonal Skills – Be able to negotiate between multiple different ideas.
· High level of independence is required of this position. Should be able to complete tasks with general direction and possible overall scope of project.
· Problem Solving – Solve problems creatively (daily) for designs, software.
o Create efficient workflow for fabrication (from cutting to finish)
o Review/Fix any possible interference (Lineup of components)
o Any Issues arising from Fabrication will need immediate solutions
o Solve/Compare previous issues/designed & incorporate with new designs.

· High School Diploma
· Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Related Field
